Broken Promises

Chapter 4

Julia could not believe her ears.  Caspian sat before her bleeding out his side and he had asked her to stay with him.  She knew how hard it must have been to state that he needed someone. But she was glad it had been her.

“Of course I’ll stay with you.  Who else will care of you why’ll you’re hurt?”  she asked.

Caspian stared at her for a moment and she slowly got the impression that that was not what he meant.

“Thank you,”  he said with a sexy grin forming on his face.

“You’re very welcome,”  she said back.

Eight Days Later

Caspian stepped from his porch into the fresh morning air.  Julia stood beside him just incase he stumbled, but he knew he would not.  He was in perfect health, but he had dragged the process on a little longer than it had to be.

He stepped away from his little nurse and took in his surrounds.  Everything was calm, but his instincts kicked in.  Deep in his gut he knew something was going to happen today, but what, he did not know.

“What’s wrong?”  Julia asked.

He looked back at her to see she had not moved towards him, as if sensing that she needed to keep her distance.

“I don’t know,”  he answered truthfully.

As the day went by the feeling became more and more apparent.  He had even snapped at Julia, which he had apologized for about three hundred times.

He watched the forest with a stead eye cataloging every movement, and every catsumy that he saw.  Then as a light breeze past over him he smelled it.

“Jaeger!”  he snarled.

Stepping out of the forest like death itself was Jaeger and twenty men from the village.

“Did you think you had gotten rid of me?”  laughed Jaeger.

“No, your rancid stink was still in the air reminding me that filth like you were still alive,”  he snapped.

He straightened to his full height puffing out his chest as he stepped down onto the ground.  Some of the villagers back up a few steps, but they did not run like he hoped.

“What do you want, Jaeger?”  he asked though he already knew the answer.

“I want you dead,”  sneered Jaeger.

His tiger snarled and pushed to be let out, but he kept it in.

“Die!”  snapped his tiger. “Kill!  Keep mate safe!”

“Over my dead body,”  growled Julia.

He whipped his head around to see his mate stepping down the stairs.  She did not even look at him when she passed.  She just kept her eyes locked on Jaeger and she positioned herself in front of him.

“Julia?”  he whispered softly.

“Shut up, Caspian,”  his mate snapped.

“What in the hell?” sneered Jaeger. “I did not know you had a woman.  Now that changes things completely.  Why don’t I kill you as I use her.  That sounds like a plan doesn’t it.”

He let a low growl bubble from his throat as he stepped forward, but Julia placed herself in front of him.  He wanted to snap at her, but he could not bring himself to do it again.

“You are nothing, but an evil little man that gets off by causing others pain,”  his mate shot back.

Jaeger stood there for a moment unspeaking, astonished that that had come from Julia’s mouth.

“What did you just say?”  Jaeger asked fury apparent in his voice.

“You know exactly what I said and if you do not remove yourself from this property this instant there will be consequences,”  Julia sneered.

He kept his eyes steady on Jaeger.  He knew what this human was capable of and did not want to give him an advantage.

“Leave Jaeger,”  he snapped.

“Kill!”  his tiger growled.

The villagers looked back and forth between his mate and himself, but Jaeger’s eyes never wavered from Julia.  Julia stood her ground glaring back at his rival.

“Why would you give your life for him?” asked one of the villagers. “He is a demon.”

He felt his mate stiffen before him and turn her deadly glare on the villager.

“Because my heart tells me to,”  Julia explained.

He wanted to jump up and down for what his mate had just revealed to him, but he knew better.  So he just stepped a bit closer to her giving her all the support she needed.

Julia could barely control the temper that was boiling centimeters below her skin.  She wanted to strike out like an untaught youth, but she refrained herself.

She watched all the men’s movements expecting them to attack at any moment, but they did not.  They just stood there staring at her as if she was new species that had popped out in front of them.

  “Fire!”  screamed Jaeger.

Her eyes shot to him as startled villager released their arrows.  They flew through the sky straight at her, but she did not give them a second thought.

“You shouldn’t have done that,”  she muttered.

A roar caught her by surprise as Caspian in his tiger form leaped past her right at the villagers.  With one hand she caught Caspian by the nape of the neck jerking him to a stop and the other she waved into the air.  The arrows disincarnated before they were ten feet close to her.

Caspian struggled in her grasp, but never struck at her to get free.  She looked up to see the fear clearly written in the villager’s eyes, but Jaeger was another story.  His eyes were filled with uncontrollable lust as he stared at her.

She glared at him before looking back at the villagers.

“Leave and never come back,”  she snapped.

The second her words slipped from her mouth the villagers were on the move.  They took off in the forest as quickly as their human feet could carry them.

Caspian was still pulling at her grip as the villager ran.

“Shhh…  Easy boy,”  she whispered.

Her voice seemed to have  calmed Caspian a bit so she released her hold.  The tiger growled at Jaeger, but did not move from her side.  Her fingers ran through its soft thick fur as she watched the human before her.

“I said leave,”  she sneered.

She knew that he would not just leave, but she had to give him the chance.

“I told your mate that I was going to kill him as he watched me take you and my plan has not changed.”  Jaeger laughed.

“You are a sick man and your logic is unsound,”  she stated.

“What?”  Jaeger asked.

“I would kill you before you put a finger on Caspian or myself and I can tell you this straight forward,” she reported with a smile tugging at her lips. “I make Caspian look like a new born kitten.  You would never have a chance to take me down.”

She watched as Jaeger’s confidences faded.  He looked at her with the fear she had seen all her life.  Letting her disguise down a bit her eyes began to glow.  She allowed her immortal soul to shine.

She wanted to laugh out when Jaeger eyes bulged from his head.

“What are you?”  he stammered.

“I am your life and death,” she growled. “I am the only reason you still breathe the air around you.  I am an immortal.  I am an angel.  I am your worst fear.”

Without a word Jaeger took off into the woods.  The forest came to life as darklings and catsumys attacked at the hunter.  Jaeger’s screams filled the air, and the taint of blood flowed freely in the breeze.  Then all went quiet.

She looked down at Caspian.  His eyes were looking up at her.

“I told you that I would take care of you,”  she whispered.

Rubbing her fingers through his fur one last time she turned and made her way back into the house.

Caspian could not believe what had just expired here.  His rival was dead and not by his own hand, but that of his mate.  Julia had fought for him when others would have run and she did not dismiss that she was his mate.

“Claim?”  asked his tiger.

“Soon my friend.  Very soon,”  he answered.

His tiger slowly fading back.  He stood and stared after his mate.  Julia was more than he had ever hoped of getting in a mate.

With a huff he followed her into the house.  She was sitting at the table staring at its wood grain.  His heart flip flopped when he saw her like that.

He slowly creped up to Julia and placed his hand on her shoulder.  His mate did not even flinch she just laid her hand over his and continued to stared off into space.

“I’m so sorry,”  Julia finally mumbled.

He pulled her chair out and kneeled before her.

“For what?”  he asked.

She looked up at him.  Tears skimmed around her eyes demanding to be let free.

“You must be so alone,”  Julia whispered.

“No, I have never felt alone, but if you leave me I will,” he stated. “You have dug yourself deep into my heart and I can’t see my life without you.”

His heart pounded in his chest as he waited for her to say something.  When she remanded silent he looked back at her.

The tears that had been unshed where know running down her cheeks.  His mate’s eyes sparkled as a smile spread across her lips.

“Caspian I…..”  Julia began.

“Please don’t say no,” he interrupted.  “I have never felt this was about any woman before.  You are my one and only mate.”

“I…”  Julia began.

Julia stared down at Caspian.  His eyes were filled with worry and nervousness.  Her heart was beating a million miles per minute as he kneeled before her.

He had not told her that he loved her, but he would never do that.  What she had learned theses few days with Caspian was that he did not believe in love at least not the word.

He had said she was his mate and in the demon world that was the closest that he would come to saying he loved her.

“What should I do?”  she asked.

“Follow your heart my daughter.  It will always lead you where you need to go,”  said God.

“But what if it’s wrong?”  she questioned.

“Trust in it and you will never be wrong,”  God sighed.

She looked at Caspian and her heart did not hesitate to give her its answer.

“Yes.  I will stay with you.  I will become your mate.”  she whispered so lightly that she was not sure he heard her.

But she was proven wrong when he scooped her up into his arms.  A giggle flew from her lips as he swung her around and around.

Still holding her Caspian stopped.  Her face was level with his and he took full advantage of that fact.  Caspian’s lips touched her’s with such gentleness that it was like being touched by a butterfly’s wing.

She gasped opening her mouth to his.  He pushed the kiss deeper slanting his mouth on her’s.  It was rough, but she could not bring herself to mind.

She dug her finger nails into his shoulder causing Caspian to purr into her mouth.  She whimpered and clung to him tighter.  Her heart raced and she did not want it to stop.

She jerked her mouth away from his so she could get some must needed air, but that did not deter him.  His lips attached to her neck and began nipping his way down it.

She moaned as she arched her back giving him better access.  Caspian growled vibrating her neck as his teeth lightly locked onto her neck.

She purred deep in her throat and fisted her fingers into his hair.

“Mine!”  Caspian growled.

She squeaked as he nipped her nape.

“Mine!”  he growled more forcefully this time.

“Yours,”  she gasped.

That seemed to be what he needed because he tightened his grip on her holding her in place.

“Mine!”  he screamed into her neck.

Caspian reared back, his fangs lengthening before her eyes.  She had a heart beat of time to feel fear before his fangs stabbed into the meaty part of her nape.

She cried out as the pain whipped through her body.  Her finger nail dug more deeply into Caspian’s body, but he did not seem to notice.

He growled into her neck causing her breath to catch in her throat.  Then the growl turned into a purr and uncontrollable pleasure chased the pain from her body.

She laid there in his arms unmoving as pleasure washed over her.  Caspian continued to purr his fangs still locked in her neck.

“Caspian,”  she whispered.

She threaded her fingers through his hair and gave a light tug.  Caspian’s head came up with out a fight.  His mouth was pink with her blood, but to her he had never looked more beautiful.

“Julia,”  Caspian breathed before his lips where on her’s again.

Caspian could barely control himself.  His tiger purred as he ran his hand down Julia’s back.  Catching her above the knee he lifted her and sat her on the table.

His mate’s legs wrapped around his waist.  He growled into her mouth making her body tremble before him.

Julia’s nails raked his back as if trying to get closer to him.  It hurt a bit, but it seemed to excite him more that his mate wanted him so desperately.

His hand seized her neck and pulled her away from him.  His mate’s eyes were glazed with desire as she looked up at him.  Her tongue grazed over her swollen lips as if trying to lift his taste from them.

“Julia,”  he whispered.

His mate whimpered as he ran his thumb over her bottom lip.  He knew that she would not stop him if he pushed her, but he knew that it was still too soon.

Julia’s feelings towards him were still too fresh, to new to be tested.  He slowly brought her head under his chin and held her to him.  He could feel his mate’s heart beating against his own, and for the first time since his mother died, he felt peace.

“My Julia….  My mate….”  he whimpered.

Carefully he began to rock them back and forth.  His voice was soft and smooth as he calmed his mate.  Slowly he felt both of their hearts being to reseed back to normal.

Julia’s fingers began to loosen their deadly hold on him.  Pulling away slightly he looked down at her.  His mate’s eyes were still a bit glazed, but for the most part back to normal.

At first she would not meet his eyes, but with a bit of coxing, her eyes looked up at him.  He could tell that his mate had never done something like that before and in the back of his mind his tiger roared with ecstasy.

They had been the first male to touch her and by all means would, be the last.

“Mine,”  purred his tiger. “Mate.  Julia.”

He had never felt his tiger more at peace then at that moment.  It just purred and sank into the depths of his mind.

“Yours,”  his mate whispered.

He kissed her forehead and held her tighter against his heart.
